Dermal Fillers

Hylaronic acid is the active ingredient in dermal fillers. It is found in abundance in young skin. It holds onto moisture and provides both elasticity and volume with help from two other substances: collagen and elastin.

Unfortunately, these break down over time and are replenished less and less as we age. This loss presents as wrinkles and diminished facial volume.

When dermal fillers are injected under the skin they replace this lost volume and plump out wrinkles.

  • How does the wrinkle treatment work?
Wrinkles are formed by the repeated contraction of facial muscles on the overlying skin. As we age the skin loses elasticity and these wrinkles become permanent. When injected under the skin this product targets and blocks chemical messages passing from nerves to the facial muscles. Since the muscles can no longer contract, the overlying skin doesn't move. This results in reduction of wrinkles and prevention of new ones from forming.
  • Where can wrinkle injections be used?
This product is well known for its rejuvenating effects on the face, but it's actions can be utilised to treat other conditions. It can be injected into armpits and palms for excessive sweating. Treatment of the masseter muscles (chewing muscles) can help with "hamster cheeks" and with pain from temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
  • What happens during a treatment session?
The treatment only takes a few minutes and involves several small injections in the agreed areas. Red, raised bumps are apparent for 10 minutes and then the skin returns to normal.
  • What are the risks?
Localised bruising is the most common side effect, but subsides after a few days and is helped by arnica. More uncommon risks include droopy eyelid, allergic reaction, infection, asymmetry, production of antibodies (which stop the botox from working) and difficulty pursing lips.
  • How long does it take to work?
The effects are not immediate. It can take from 3 to 14 days for it to start working.
  • How long does it last?
The length of time that the results last varies from person to person. Repeated treatments are usually required every 3-4 months. It can be as long as 6 months between visits.
  • Is this injectable wrinkle treatment right for me?
This product is a great injectable for facial rejuvenation, but also for wrinkle prevention. Used in the right way and in the right areas it has something to offer most ages, genders and race.
